A Return to In-Person Events!
Tara Austin is an artist with an MFA in Painting who specializes in the folk art of Rosemaling. Austin’s work is part of a revival of rosemaling in the Upper Midwest; it builds upon the traditions while infusing them with contemporary reworkings that may ensure their relevance to new generations. Her company, Scandi Bijou, provides painted heirlooms for the modern lifestyle, including Dala horses and rosemaled décor.
The “Scandi Bijou” exhibit highlights the talents of Austin, whose works are noted as being guided by “geometry, harmony, and natural beauty” while also drawing on Nordic styles and processes.
Over the past year, the Nordic Center continued to bring art, social, and educational programming to the community – in virtual form. “Scandi Bijou” will be the first official doors-open event since the beginning of the pandemic.
“It’s a good challenge. There’s a technique to the folk art, so there is a process you can follow… making it accessible, but it takes a lot of practice.”

The exhibit can be experienced during the gallery opening on July 23rd from 6:30pm-8pm, Fridays from 12pm-4pm and Saturday and Sundays from 1pm-4pm. Rosemaling workshops will also be offered by Austin;
