Make Your Own Heart-Shaped Leather Keychain

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with this 2 hour hands-on instructional session that will cover the introductory basics of leatherwork. Participants will be making a heart-shaped leather keychain in either red or black in time for Valentine’s Day. Students will learn how to do saddle stitching and leather assembly, along with learning about various tools. Main components for this project will be cut out ahead of time. All participants must be prepared/have the ability to use a mallet to punch through leather/use an awl to create stitch holes for sewing, along with repetitive use of hands for sewing.

About the instructor:

Britta Keenan is a native Duluthian and graduate of UMD, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. After graduation she moved out to NYC, and enrolled in Parsons School of Art & Design, receiving an additional degree in Fashion Design. Britta has worked for DKNY, Calvin Klein Dresses, Rafaella & Urban Outfitters/URBN and most recently Maurices. Her career in fashion has spanned various roles in design and technical design. In 2011, she started leatherworking as a hobby, and quickly discovered a passion for this artform. Britta looks forward to showing others the versatility and unending possibilities within a range of leatherwork and repair techniques.
