Our next novel, Your Absence is Darkness, is written by Jon Kalman Stefansson, one of Iceland’s most beloved contemporary writers. It is not a novel easily summarized but suffice it to say that it is a spellbinding saga about the inhabitants of one rural community, past and present. The novel is filled with individual stories and with moods as shifting as the sea. Only gradually do we learn how they are connected. Stepfansson’s books are popular in Europe and have won numerous awards. In Great Britain and Ireland critics compare him to writers such as Cormac McCarthy, Charles Dickens and even J.R.R Tolkien. This is a long book so be sure to get started early.
