Nordic Music Workshop Series w/ Paul Dahlin
The Nordic Center is hosting a series of fiddle workshops from November through April on the third Sunday of each month (Nov 19, Dec 17, Jan 21, Feb 18, March 17, April 21st).
Paul Dahlin will lead an introduction to the folk music of Sweden, mostly the province of Dalarna. Vals, schottis, polska and gånglåtar will be explored. Our major focus will be on rhythm and motion. It will be necessary for all to come with eyes and ears open to new sounds and motions. Although this is primarily fiddle music, other instruments are welcome too… bring a recording device!
The workshop series will culminate with a celebration dance on Sunday, April 27th (dance!)
“This is an opportunity for me to do what I really love to do… sharing my family’s traditional music of Sweden. I have my grandfather’s repertoire that he had with him when he arrived in America in 1924, and many more wonderful tunes I learned from recordings, my trips to Sweden and more recently from Swedish musician friends visiting us. Our sessions for this first time at the Nordic Center will be an introduction to the folk music of Sweden, mostly the province of Dalarna.”

All classes are taught by Paul Dahlin. The cost to register is $10 per session or $50 for all six sessions.
