Each year the Swedish Women’s Educational Association Minnesota chapter awards a scholarship for an individual project that supports their mission: to preserve and promote the Swedish language, culture and traditions. SWEA is now accepting scholarship applications for 2021.
Reflecting SWEA’s global reach, two scholarships are promoted this year, a general scholarship from SWEA Minnesota and a travel/study grant from SWEA’s regional organization MAME (Middle Americas).
Each year, SWEA Minnesota awards a scholarship of $1,000. Anyone between the ages of 12 and 100 is eligible to apply. The applicant should live in Minnesota and plan to study the Swedish language or another subject relevant to Sweden, such as culture, history, or literature. The project’s outcome is to be presented in a written report within three months of completion of the studies, and the studies should be completed within nine months of the scholarship award date. Presentation of the report will take place at one of SWEAs monthly meetings the following year and preferably in person.
To apply, applicants should submit an essay (at least 300 words) with information about yourself, your project, and what you plan to accomplish with the scholarship funds. Please include your name, age, address, phone number, e-mail and nationality. Members of SWEA Minnesota and their relatives are not eligible for this scholarship.
The deadline for application is June 1, 2021.
For more information or to apply for the scholarship, please send your application or questions to SWEA Minnesota at [email protected].
All applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing by June 20, 2021. If possible, the scholarship will be presented to the selected recipient during SWEA Minnesota’s participation at the Midsummer celebration at Gammelgården in Scandia, MN, in June 2021.
